Son Rise Trail Riders

Our last group campout of the year was held at Rock Creek Campgrounds outside of Battle Ground, WA, the weekend after Labor Day. We thought we'd have the place to ourselves once school had started; WRONG! The campground was nearly full of non-horse campers when our group began arriving Friday afternoon, and we had to do some creative cramming and juggling to get everyone settled.

Rock Creek used to be a designated horse campground, but is now open to everyone, and the horse facilities could use some work; more on that later. But the weather was lovely, the trails were good, and the yellow jackets weren't problematic, so everyone had a good time, and some good rides. Six families camped all or part of the weekend, and the Browns and Conns came by on Sabbath and joined in the fellowship for a few hours, swelling our total participation up to 23. (See photos from the weekend below.)

We talked with the camp host and some DNR staff about the possibility of bringing in donated materials and volunteer labor to rebuild some of the paddocks, and the idea was received warmly. We have yet to set a date, but hope to make this a chapter project. Stay tuned!

The Goodlins are again hosting our annual barn party on Oct. 27. We are looking forward to good food, cider pressing and games in their covered arena. After that we have a meeting scheduled on Nov. 17; a topic and location will be announced. Our last event of 2007 will be our annual Christmas party with cutthroat gift exchange at the Wearner's home in Willamina on Dec. 8. at 6:00 p.m.

See you there!
