White Pine Trail Riders (July Ride)

Hello Everyone from Whitepine Trail Riders,

Well, we were on the trail again July 22. Ten riders in all. Summer is at its peak, sunny and hot. We were supposed to go to Grandmother/ Grandfather mountain, but changed the ride a bit due to the new rules on crossing and parking on Potlatch land. We all met at Clarkia and drove out to Freeze Out Saddle together. We saddled up and then proceeded down the trail to Marble Creek. And it was downhill. We had 3 young horses, 4 & 5 year olds, who were sure that there were trolls under the couple of wooden bridges we crossed. They did cross with a little help from their older, trail-wise friends. My horse, Dusty, decided a few miles into the ride to live up to his name and roll in the dust. Only problem was that he forgot that I was on top. I was lucky and only got my foot caught and ended up with a few bruises, but no broken bones.

On down the trail we went and lunched at Marble Creek. Of course water and Lynne only mean one thing. Lynne, always prepared, peeled down to her swimming attire and in she went, floating a short distance down the creek.

After lunch we were back in the saddle and on the trail back. The horses made very good time considering it was all uphill going back. They were anxious to get back to the trailers and go home to eat. The ride was about 20 miles according to Dave.

We all enjoyed watermelon when we got back to the trailers. Thanks to Dave & Mary. A very refreshing way to end the hot day. Once again a great ride. I can't wait till the next one. I need to get packing and ready for the Wilderness Ride. I am looking forward to seeing new country. Hope to see many of you there.

Until next time,
Happy Trails,

Norma Bishop
