White Pine Trail Riders (September Ride)

Category: Newsletter, Chapter News

Hello once again from the White Pine Trail Riders!

We were once again on the trail Sept. 30. This ride was led by Lynne in her territory in St. Maries. This is a fun and scenic ride. It is also a ride that tests the rider and horse on their ability. It starts as beginner and rapidly moves through intermediate to advanced. Everyone passed with flying colors. There were only 8 of us on this ride. I think the possibility of foul weather kept people away. Two new riders joined us. Diana, a friend of Connie's, and Dana, a friend of ours. They had a great time and are hoping to join on future rides.

The colors were beautiful. Gold, green, crimson and in between. We rode along a ridge for a short time over looking the St. Maries River. We then moved on to Beaver Slide which had been changed some by the recent logging. We enjoyed lunch at "Belly Fill Flats". It started to sprinkle after lunch. We all donned dusters, but the rain only lasted a few minutes. We rode over an old road and then down to "Greenhorn's Folly". This is where the trail once more becomes interesting to say the least. The trail is steep and narrow. A few riders found bees but luckily no accidents. A new sign was placed this year. "Daphne's Dilemma". And once again Daphne was having no part of this part of the trail. I think that we are going to have Joe make another sign "Daphne's alternative". We all arrived safely back at our trailers.

And for the finale of the ride, my Father handed me the keys to the truck, at Dave's suggestion. Thanks Dave. For everyone who knows me, I have never driven hauling a horse trailer. I must not have done badly because Dana said she was getting drowsy and when I asked Dad how I was doing, the answer was "OK, I would be telling you if you weren't". This was all done in preparation for the next ride, as my parents won't be joining us. I told Dave I would put my "Big Girl Pants on", although he would have to help with the backing up.

Until next time, I hope all of you enjoy the weather and the riding while it lasts.

Happy Trails,

Norma Bishop
